Shawn Berry

6th Science, Math & Chorus

My name is Shawn Berry, and I am teaching 6th grade Science, Math Lab, and choir this year at Quest! I moved here in 2013 from Nebraska to begin my full-time teaching career. I previously taught in Nebraska as a substitute teacher and private piano instructor. I grew up in a military family, so my childhood was spent in Idaho, Wyoming, Illinois, Alaska, and Nebraska.

I attended college in Kansas City, Missouri, and Provo, Utah while earning my first Bachelor's degree in Music and afterwards, worked at a music store and taught private piano and clarinet lessons. After staying home with my children for a few years, I returned to school to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Peru State College in Nebraska. I also completed my Master's degree in Mathematics Education (K-6) at Western Governors University in December 2017. I thoroughly enjoy teaching math and strive to make it accessible to everyone.

When I'm not teaching, I love to read and play the clarinet and piano. A few times each year, I play with the Chamber Orchestra Ogden at Peery’s Egyptian Theater in downtown Ogden. Check my door for posters! I also love hanging out with my two sons, who are also students at Quest. We like to play video games and watch movies together.

Mikell Beus

7th Math

My name is Mikell Beus. I grew up just down the road in Hooper. I got my associates degree from Snow College, and finished my degree at Western Governors in Math Education. I have worked at Quest for 3 years, and loved getting to know the students and school. Math is my passion! Very few feelings parallel the thrill that comes from taking something that seems impossible and breaking it down piece by piece until it is solved.

Outside the classroom I love playing sports (especially basketball, tennis, and pickleball). Learning new things is one of my greatest joys of life. This love has led me to quilting, cake decorating, playing the guitar, and piano. But more than all these I love spending time with my family and friends, and am lucky enough to have 9 amazing siblings and 16 nieces and nephews.

7th Art of Problem Solving & 9th Math

"Hello, I am Krystal Haslett and am looking forward to my first year of teaching at Quest Academy.
I am originally from Belen, New Mexico, where I grew up and graduated from high school. After graduating I attended college at Brigham Young University - Idaho, where I earned a Bachelor's in Psychology with a minor in Mathematics. Last year I taught Algebra 1 and intervention math at Belen High School in New Mexico. I love math, it opens so many doors, especially in today's world! As a teacher I want to help my students have the best possible chance for success in school and in their future endeavors, and feel confident in their capabilities. I firmly believe that people only hate math if it wasn't explained to them well when they learned it.
Outside of school I love sports, especially soccer, tennis, racquetball and basketball. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, swimming and kayaking; and love participating in triathlons. I love learning, and constantly try to be engaged in learning something new! Recently I have taken up learning Spanish and the piano. I enjoy traveling and have recently traveled to Italy, Washington D.C., Washington State, and Oregon. Over the summer I took a trip to Mexico to volunteer at an orphanage and loved every minute of playing with and learning from the kids there. I adore my family, and love spending time with them, especially my grandparents and my nephews and nieces.
I am excited to start this new adventure at Quest and look forward to this upcoming year and the treasures it holds!"

Jennifer Jones

Jennifer Jones

7th & 9th Computer Science, 8th Astro Class

Hi, I’m Mrs. Jen Jones and this is my fourth year teaching at Quest Academy, and I love every minute of it. I love teaching technology and programming to kids of all ages and love, love, love the “light bulb” moments when a child finally grasps a complex problem. I have a firmly held belief that learning to create technology, not just use it, is the advantage that will propel the next generation of innovators. I am a Space Foundations Liaison Officer/Teacher and love bringing space & technology education into the classroom.

Previously, I spent 9 years working as an independent contractor bringing technology, automation and paperless business strategies to many small businesses. I am a self taught programmer and love solving digital difficulties with coding solutions. I specialize in Google Suite Apps and am currently finishing my Google Apps for Education Trainer certificate. My favorite programming language is JavaScript which is convenient as it is the language I use to teach students.

In my younger years, I worked on the production teams for major movie/TV studio companies including Disney, SyFy channel and CBS, as an accountant and tax agent for the IRS (I know, boo hiss) and as a graphic designer creating marketing campaigns.

I live in Roy with my wonderful son and husband with whom I have been married for nearly 13 years. I enjoy botany/gardening, camping, techno music (what?!), dub step, orchid collecting, crafts, origami, kung fu (I love Kung FUUUUUUU!) and graphic designing. I love to continue to learn and am always exploring new educational adventure horizons. Most of all, I love teaching your wondrous children.

Waiaka Kealamakia

9th Biology, Financial Literacy & Computer Science

My name is Waiaka Kealamakia. I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. I spent my younger and more youthful days foraging for wild fruit, jumping off of waterfalls, and swimming in the ocean deep. Those experiences taught me to appreciate the world around me and to wonder about the cosmos. To make a long story short, I am now a science teacher in West Haven, Utah. #WhoWouldHaveThought.

Utah is an exciting place to be if you love science. Since I moved here in 2016, I have learned so much from the naturally occurring phenomena taking place all around me and in my back yard. Utah has some of the coolest rock formations, science museums, and engineering companies with great tours! One thing I try to communicate to my students is that Utah is a state filled with great science and that we're lucky to have the opportunity to live here.
Besides science and teaching, my other passions include eating pizza, dunking on other people with my yoyo skills, personal finance, and design. I'm always down for a great conversation, so feel free to stop by my classroom for chat.
Aloha!

Derick Roskelley

7th & 8th PE, 8th Health, 9th Health 2 & Fit For Life

What’s up everyone? My name is Derick Roskelley and I am pumped for my third year at Quest Academy! I look forward to teaching Physical Education and managing our sports programs AND I get to teach Health this upcoming Fall!

SPOILER ALERT: We will have a brand new weight room to utilize this upcoming year.  I am excited for the health benefits it will offer our students and student athletes!

This will be my third year coaching Quest Cross Country and our Boy’s and Girl’s teams have finished 2nd place in two separate regions that we have competed in! We have some tough runners at Quest and I look forward to challenging Mount Ogden this fall with our awesome kids!

This will be my first year as the head coach of the Quest Boys’ Basketball team and I am excited for the season.  We are returning some key players for the upcoming 2019-2020 season and I am excited to take our Quest boys to compete against future Ogden High School and Ben Lomond High School basketball players.

In the spring I get a break from coaching and am able to be a part of Quest Fishing Club with Ms. Ashley.  Come join us for some fishing and relaxing this March.

I graduated from Morgan High School and had the opportunity to play baseball in Kansas and travel the Midwest during my early years of college. I missed the mountains and fishing and transferred back to Weber State University. I graduated in 2011, Majoring in Physical Education and Minoring in Health Promotion.  Following student teaching at Ogden High School, I worked in the Ogden School District as a Health and Physical Education specialist while coaching baseball at Ogden High.  With a talented coaching staff we turned a 0 win team at Ogden into a .500 team in a tough Region 11 in just three short years. Our countless hours of work were rewarded with the opportunity to coach the 2012 3A All-Star game at Lindquist Field.

I LOVE coaching, teaching, and pushing students and athletes to become their very best on and off of the field.  I enjoy teaching students how to compete properly and have fun while doing so. Sportsmanship is an important part of my classroom management.

When not teaching or coaching I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, our two dogs, and two cats.  We love traveling in our 1984 Chevy Lindy motor home and spend many summer nights at Bear Lake.  I enjoy playing softball, golfing, watching every Jazz game, camping, barbecuing and watching a good baseball game, fly fishing all over the West, guiding and teaching older “students” my passion, and tying and designing local flies.
