Catherine Sumner

Elementary Special Education Teacher

I live in Roy with my amazing husband and 3 children but was raised in the small town of Woods Cross. Education has been part of my life since I was little. I've had the opportunity to work in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade over the years, whether it was in the office, on the playground, substituting or teaching in the classroom. I am finishing up my dual license in Special Education and Elementary Education at Western Governors University. I decided years ago that I wanted to become a teacher to make a lasting impact on those I get to teach. I have 2 siblings who are hearing impaired and I learned ASL when I was attending Salt Lake Community College right after graduating from high school. I have had the opportunity to use that knowledge quite often. I often helped my Mom with respite care and became close with the kids she took care of and I am still in contact with some of those kids who are grown adults now. I love Quest and am excited to start my 3rd year of teaching here. I love when the students I'm working with have the "awe ha" moments and grasp what they are learning. I love when I'm in the community and kids from Quest come up and say hi.

When I am not studying for school, working or taking care of my family, you can find me trying new recipes, baking yummy desserts, canning salsa with veggies from my garden, making freezer jam, caring for flowers in my yard and spending lots of time with my family outdoors.
